LEAD SAFETY FOR RENOVATION, REPAIR, & PAINTING
Joint EPA-HUD Curriculum - Certified Renovator Initial Training Course - EPA-740-R-09-002
To prevent consumer and worker exposure to lead paint and its debilitating health effects, the EPA is now enforcing new requirements on renovation projects under its new Renovation, Repair, and Painting Program (RRP).
Since the EPA launched the program in April 2010, any contractor performing renovations, repairs, or painting on pre-1978 housing or child-occupied facilities is now required to register with the EPA as a Lead-Safe Certified Firm. There must also be at least one supervisor on the qualifying project site who has completed the 8-hour Lead Renovators Certification course to become a Certified Renovator. Non-compliance could result in fines as high as $37,500 per day from the EPA.
This manual is a guide to the EPA's Renovation, Repair, and Painting Program, and prepares individuals to carry out the new lead-safe requirements as a Certified Renovator.
Topics covered in this book include:
• An overview of the EPA RRP Regulations
• Pre-Renovation Activities
• Dust Containment During Renovation
• Proper Renovation Procedures During Renovation
• Project Site Cleaning and Verification
• Best Record-keeping Practices
• On-site Training Procedures
